Dance Unlimited tours New York
By Sabrina Magnisi Thursday, July 26, 2007 MORGAN HILL - No extra rehearsals, no last minute costume checks, no dance submission deadlines; and yet this summer when Dance Unlimited skipped going to a national dance competition, the excitement, anticipation and travel planning were still in the air. "We'd thought it'd be fun to do something different this year," said Jackie Butkivich, owner and director of Dance Unlimited, "so we planned a trip that anyone in the studio could participate in, not just the competition dancers. We took a New York dance tour and we loved it!" A total of twleve dancers and a handful of parents and teachers attended the five day excursion, from July 12 to July 16. The tour included dance clinics and workshops, behind the scenes tours at Radio City Music hall, a Broadway play, sightseeing, shopping, a visit to ground zero, and ended with the group performing before the Statue of Liberty. The trip turned out to be as ambitious an undertaking as any national competition, with fund-raising time replacing extra dance practices. Dancers and their parents interested in attending the five day excursion needed to sell enough advertising space in the recital programs to cover any costs beyond what their budgets would allow.
